FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are your containers made of? Are they safe?

Your safety is our number one concern, which is why our containers are made of #5 polypropylene (AKA 5PP), one of the safest materials to use for plastic products (even commonly used for baby bottles). This type of plastic is very durable, heat resistant, and generally considered to be the best plastic for microwave use.

How many times can the containers be used?

Since our containers are made of such a durable plastic, one container can be used approximately 1000 times. Once a container fails it is returned to manufacturing and broken down to be reused again in a new container.

How much does this service cost?

By using this service am I really being that much more sustainable?

The simple answer is emphatically YES! Though utilizing our service does mean that some water and energy are being used to wash, sanitize, and transport our containers, it’s a drop in the bucket when compared to traditional single use disposable waste, and even that which is used during the recycling process. If you’d like to learn more about the specific environmental benefits of reuse, you can read this report by Upstream.

Do I need to wash the containers before returning?

It is always a great help to our team when containers are rid of all food waste before coming back to our facility, but it is not a requirement that containers be thoroughly cleaned since we both clean and sanitize every container once they are returned.

Is the Health Department okay with this?

The service that we provide falls outside of the direct jurisdictional purview of state Departments of Agriculture and Health Departments, however, our standard practices regarding washing, drying, and distributing reusable containers is conducted in compliance with any and all relevant food and safety regulations. Your health and safety is our number one concern, so we do everything in our power to ensure that our service is held to the highest standards.
